Flamingo, a Miami-based startup building what it describes as an AI-native infrastructure platform for managed service providers, announced a $4.5 million seed funding round led by Vertex Ventures this week, pushing the company's total capital to $6.7 million. The platform combines open-source tooling with artificial intelligence agents designed to handle routine IT tasks autonomously, aiming to cut costs and ticket queues for MSPs while the company prepares for its commercial launch this month. CEO Michael Assraf told CRN the funding will help stabilize the product and accelerate AI development as Flamingo transitions from beta testing to billing customers.
The company's OpenFrame platform is designed to consolidate 19 IT and security product categories into a unified system, with the first generation already covering remote monitoring and management, mobile device management, monitoring, automation, remote access, patch management, security monitoring and ticketing. Flamingo onboarded approximately 400 MSPs during beta testing and collected roughly 3,000 validated MSPs on its waitlist. The company operates with about 35 employees across 12 countries, all working remotely. Flamingo's OpenMSP community, a vendor directory listing commercial and open-source tool alternatives, has attracted nearly 700 MSPs to its Slack channel and around 1,000 registered users. The startup is currently pursuing SOC 2 Type 2 certification and plans to roll out its second and third generations of modules by year's end, eventually covering all 19 categories including cloud backup, endpoint detection and response, endpoint protection platforms, identity and access management, network monitoring and secure email gateway.
According to Assraf, the platform deploys two AI agents to handle tasks across different privilege levels: Fae, an end-user assistant that automatically resolves simple issues without opening tickets, and Mingo, a technician-side agent capable of executing operations across entire device fleets and proactively hunting for problems before users report them. The report states that when more privileged access is required, Fae requests approval from Mingo, which then seeks authorization from the actual user through mobile notifications. Assraf told CRN that Flamingo's goal is "to create a completely autonomous MSP" where anomaly detection, user-reported problems and fixes all happen automatically with configurable alerts and approval workflows. The platform's AI layer runs on top of frontier models, currently supporting OpenAI and Claude, though Assraf said the system is model-agnostic and recommends Claude because "it performs much better than any other model by far" for IT security operations based on the company's testing.
Assraf explained that the vision emerged from his earlier work with MSPs at cybersecurity company Vicarious, where he observed younger, smaller providers switching to open-source tools to escape vendor costs. The report notes that software reselling typically represents 30 percent of MSP expenses, and replacing commercial tools with open-source alternatives could raise gross margins from the 20 to 30 percent range up to 50 to 60 percent. Combining that cost reduction with AI-driven automation to serve more customers with the same headcount became the foundation for Flamingo's business model, Assraf said. The company went through what he described as "a very intense funding process of around three weeks" after determining it had achieved product-market fit and needed additional capital to enhance stability and AI capabilities before launching commercially. Flamingo has already activated its billing and usage dashboard so beta participants can preview costs before the company begins charging, and Assraf said he expects most of the 400 beta MSPs to convert to paying customers once the platform officially launches with what he calls "a 2026 AI-native experience" that includes real-time AI notifications, desktop applications and mobile apps for end users and technicians alike.
The company plans to launch commercially this month only after delivering what Assraf characterized as a tenfold improvement over current MSP experiences, with pricing published openly on its website using per-device fees and AI consumption-based charges. The platform is designed for self-service deployment, allowing MSPs to adopt the system without sales intermediaries. For business leaders evaluating infrastructure consolidation, the timing reflects a broader pivot toward agent-based architectures that promise to reshape service delivery economics in ways traditional ticketing models can't match. Whether open-source foundations can support enterprise-grade reliability at scale remains the critical execution question for Flamingo and similar platforms betting on this architectural shift.
