An Iceland-based startup that helps companies test and simulate voice AI technology has secured $18 million in an extended Series A funding round, according to a report published by TechCrunch on September 16. Treble, which was established in 2020 by acoustic engineers Finnur Pind and Jesper Pedersen, is building a simulation platform designed to serve AI model developers, robotics firms, and consumer hardware manufacturers. The investment was spearheaded by Paladin Capital Group, with backing from existing stakeholders including KOMPAS VC, Frumtak Ventures, EIC, and Omega ehf.

The company received $12 million in 2024, pushing its cumulative funding beyond $40 million. Treble's client roster includes Amazon and Logitech. The startup operates across multiple business lines tied to simulation and data generation. For voice AI developers, it offers a synthetic data creation platform applicable to speech enhancement, noise reduction, and model training. It also assesses voice AI models under varying environmental conditions to deliver performance feedback to laboratories. Earlier in 2026, Treble collaborated with Hugging Face to introduce a benchmark for speech recognition models tested across different real-world scenarios. The company additionally concentrates on hardware design and testing from an acoustic standpoint, working with headphone and speaker manufacturers on virtual prototyping to predict product sound quality and testing smart speaker command recognition based on device placement. Recently, Treble has expanded into simulation testing for smart glasses and AI-powered devices.

Co-founder Finnur Pind told TechCrunch that "Audio AI is really a data challenge, and this is where the most opportunities to enable next-generation models and hardware lie." The report notes that nearly all sound-related AI to date has relied on recordings and data scraped from the internet, but Pind believes precise physics simulation can serve as an alternative method for generating audio data. Pind expressed particular enthusiasm about wearable devices capable of enhancing user hearing, describing a vision where headphones and smart glasses enable "superhuman hearing" in acoustically challenging environments such as restaurants or seminars. Francois Ruether, VP of Paladin Capital Group, stated in the report that Treble's simulation platform stands out and will grow more important as it enters additional sectors, with customers retaining ownership of their models and products while benefiting from shared acoustic infrastructure.

The report indicates that Treble plans to deepen its involvement in the physical AI domain, targeting robotics, automotive, and drone manufacturers to enable sound-based capabilities through testing and simulation services. According to Ruether's thesis outlined in the report, as more products rely on understanding sound, this infrastructure becomes increasingly valuable across voice AI, wearables, robotics, and physical AI applications. The startup is positioning itself at the center of the voice AI industry during a period when investors are pouring billions of dollars into the sector to serve use cases spanning automated customer support, sales calls, meeting notetakers, and AI smart glasses that use voice as the primary interaction surface. The influx of new AI models and consumer hardware creates a growing need for testing and feedback systems to drive improvement. As the market for voice-enabled products expands from consumer electronics into industrial applications, the companies that control the testing infrastructure may find themselves holding strategic leverage over product development timelines and quality benchmarks across multiple sectors.
