Y Combinator-backed startup Locus has released Locus Pro, a consolidated billing and ledger system covering more than 600 pay-per-use AI services, according to a report published by SaasRise on August 22, 2026. The platform allows AI companies to combine funding, apply markups, and generate revenue from each model call, search, scrape, or data query. Founded by Cole Dermott, the company is expanding from agent-level controls into enterprise billing infrastructure.
The new offering connects to more than 600 pay-per-use AI APIs spanning 48 verified providers, the report states. Platforms receive a single prepaid balance and one set of credentials to access all API calls, eliminating the need to manage separate accounts for each vendor. Companies can configure their own markups on top of the underlying service costs, opening a fresh expansion-revenue channel. The system is designed for AI agents that string together calls from multiple vendors within one workflow.
According to the report, Locus Pro tackles "a critical friction point in the AI-agent stack: opaque, fragmented API costs that erode margins and complicate pricing for SaaS platforms." The unified ledger lets product-led growth teams bake usage-based pricing straight into their products, building what the report describes as "a scalable expansion-revenue engine." For investors, the launch points to a move toward AI-native infrastructure that monetizes the underlying model and data services instead of only the end-user application, the report notes.
The timing coincides with AI agents moving from single-model demonstrations to production systems that weave together dozens of services, the report explains. Traditional SaaS companies have charged through tiered plans or per-seat models, but the modular nature of current AI workflows requires more detailed, transaction-level billing. Locus Pro closes that gap by converting the API economy into a metered utility layer that can be packaged like any other SaaS feature, the analysis states. Locus is pursuing network effects—adding more providers makes the platform more useful for SaaS builders, which attracts additional providers—a pattern that mirrors how payment processors became essential by bundling fragmented services. If Locus Pro achieves broad adoption, it could trigger wider acceptance of AI-native billing standards and push other infrastructure companies to build open APIs for metering and markup, the report projects. Platform owners who adopt Locus at scale may unlock a new revenue tier, earning a cut of every downstream API call and reshaping unit economics throughout the AI value chain, the report concludes.
